Guru (Guro, Kweni)

The Guru is an ethnic group living in Ivory Coast where they came in sixteenth century from the North and North-East. They speak Mande language. Like the Bambara tribe of Mali, the Guru tribe were farmers rather than hunters, and their masks and figures were used mostly for ceremonies that were supposed to increase the harvest of grains and vegetables.
Guru believe in protective spirits (zuzu) and their life dominated by secret societies.
