On your way to Sossusvlei you will find at Barchan Dune Retreat congenial hosts, excellent cuisine and something special: a lodge built into a dune with elegantly furnished rooms. Relax a day or two to at Barchan Dune Retreat to enjoy the quietness of the mountains and the beautiful environment of the Namib region, the boundless view over our valley from the sundowner bar on top of the dune and at meal times from the dining room windows.
Hannetjie and Willem van Rooyen, your hosts, are originally from the north of Namibia, but many years ago fell in love with the Namib Desert around Sossusvlei. Today they love to show their guests this grand and beautiful countryside with its soft colours, the wide open planes, the mountains and the great dunes of the Namib. For recreation we offer farm drives, hiking trails, or you could climb our mountains in the morning to see the sun rise. We can take you up Spreetshoogte Pass for a sundowner and we offer - for our guests exclusively - a drive to our farm for sundowner and watch the the sunset from this hill in the midst of the Namib desert: a wonderful experience, you will never forget.

Further we offer a trip to Sossusvlei: an early start to be at Sossusvlei for the sunrise. A hearty breakfast follows, after which you can climb Dune No. 45, surrounded by the highest dunes in the world. After stopping at Sesriem Canyon we proceed to Sesriem Camp to have a coffee break and then home to Barchan Dune Retreat for a late lunch.
