Outbound Flights from Windhoek to be arranged after 19h00
Travel south through the rugged mountain ranges surrounding the capital to the vegetated red dunes of the Kalahari Desert. These dunes differ from the Namib, as they are greener and less stark, having the ability to support more fauna and flora. In the afternoon you will be able to partake in a sundowner drive and farm drive (optional).
Kalahari Anib Ldoge: app. 270km
Sunday Fish River Canyon Breakfast
We proceed south to the Quiver Tree Forest near Keetmanshoop where this prehistoric tree reaches skyward with graphically forked branches; their trunks peel and form intricate patterns as the tree matures. In the vicinity Giant’s Playground is an impressive jumble of massive boulders. (Optional) nature / sundowner drive.
Canyon Village: app. 480km
Start the day with a guided excursion to the Fish River Canyon, the second largest canyon on Earth. Visit the small historic village of Aus and travel through the vast barren expanse to Lüderitz, situated on the southern Atlantic Coast. The town serves as a good base from which to view colonies of aquatic birds, seals and penguins. An excursion will be undertaken to view Diaz Cross.
Travel to the famous ghost town of Kolmanskop, where the first diamond was found in 1908. Heading inland we proceed via the pro-Namib to our overnight accommodation establishment.
Hammerstein: app. 410km
An early start is imperative, as this is not only the coolest part of the day but the best for photography. Our journey takes us to the famous Sossusvlei, a clay pan surrounded by some of the highest sand dunes in the world. Time will be taken to explore the impressive conglomerate gorges of the Sesriem Canyon, with its rock pools fed by the Tsauchab.

Sunday Fish River Canyon Breakfast & Dinner
We depart the Lodge travelling to Keetmanshoop, founded in 1860 by the Rhenish Mission Society. The south of Namibia is well know for its Ostrich farming as the environment is particularly suited to farming with these birds. Our destination is the Fish River Canyon, a spectacular geological phenomenon and on the African continent second in size to the Blue Nile Gorge. En-route guests will visit the Quivertree Forest and Giant’s Playground.
Canon Lodge: app. 470km
A morning visit will be taken to view the Fish River Canyon. Travel to Aus where the legendary desert horses may be seen at a Garub, a water point where they can be observed as they come to drink. Proceed to Luderitz situated on the southern Atlantic Coast with its colonial-style buildings clinging to the rocks overlooking the bay. The Luderitz area is home to a wide variety of aquatic birds. A tour will be undertaken through the town and to Diaz Cross, optional helicopter flight to Bogenfels.
Nest Hotel: app. 480km
In 1908 a railway worker found a sparkling stone amongst the sand he was shovelling – the first diamond was found sparking a diamond rush to the area, Kolmanskop was founded! Today all that remains are crumbling ruins. Travelling inland we proceed through the Namib to arrive at our Lodge during late afternoon.
Sossusvlei Lodge: app. 520km
Our journey takes us to the Sossusvlei with its monumentally high dunes; an early start is imperative to view the contrasting and changing colours during early morning light. Extensive time will be spent in the area exploring the dunes on foot, a must for those wishing to experience an endless vista across the sea of dunes. Explore Sesriem Canyon, where centuries of erosion have incised a narrow gorge some 1km in length and 30m in depth. Afternoon nature drive on property.
