Helmeringhausen

This small settlement lies 120 km south  of Maltahohe on the gravel C14, en route for Bethanie, Aus and Luderitz. There is a petrol station open 0800 - 1800 Monday - Saturday, a general store, bottle store and small hotel. It is worth visiting the Agricultural Museum to look at the old farming implements, an old fire engine used in Luderitz and one of the ox-wagons used to transfer building materials and furniture from the coast to Castle Duwisib. The key is available from the hotel next door. Farm Mooifontein 19 km south of Helmeringhausen on the C14, was the site of a German military station during the colonial period. The bodies of German soldiers who died while fighting the Nama lie in the graveyard, which contains a memorial in the form of a chapel. The iron gates were forged from the rims of ox-wagon wheels.
