Where to stay in Namibia

The reason we decided to create a page about places to stay in our country is not to describe all accommodation establishments in Namibia (you can find all contacts on our directory pages) but to pay tribute to the best and warn you against the worst ones according to our own experience.
Not all best and worst establishments are mentioned here.

Central region and Windhoek. There are several places you can stay very comfortably and still affordably. Pension Steiner has clean and comfortable rooms and close to city centre and Wernhill shopping centre. Pension Moni is located near Ausspannplatz and one of the oldest establishments in town.
Windhoek Country Club Resort is the best place for upmarket travellers in Windhoek with its large swimming pool, golf course, several restaurants and casino. Four star Kalahari Sands hotel is ideal for a business traveller and located just in the middle of the capital. Roof of Africa is a very decent backpackers lodge located in Klein Windhoek.
There are several guest farms around the capital offering comfortable accommodation and still affordable for an average tourist. Dusternbrook Farm, Okapuka Ranch, Midgard Farm (small piece of Germany in the middle of Africa), Ozombanda Guest Farm (nice family cuisine), Arnhem Farm (visits to the longest Namibia's cave system), Auas Lodge.
Coast and Namib region. Swakopmund Hotel is the only four star hotel at the coast (buffets in Platform One restaurant and a la carte menu in Captain's Tavern are the best), Hansa Hotel is the oldest hotel in Swakopmund, Strand Hotel and Beach Lodge are a places for sea view rooms in Swakopmund. Hotel Europa Hof is a middle range establishment offering good value for money. Langholm Hotel is a good option for staying in Walvis Bay.
Around Sesriem there are several lodges and all of them are quite expensive. Sossusvlei Lodge (right at the Sesriem gate) is still offering nice buffets in the evenings, Kulala Lodge has been taken over by Wilderness Safaris and now one of the most exclusive establishments in the area. They offer 4x4 trips to Sossusvlei through own private park entrance. Wilderness Camp is exclusive and expensive but perhaps well worth it. Wolwedans Dune Lodge is no doubt the most unique establishment in the area.
Northern region. Mokuti Lodge is the only four star lodge close to park's gate (impalas walking around your bungalow in the evening). Ongava Lodge located at the western gate boasts unique location (bungalows face waterhole with game roaming around). Camps in Etosha Park are still most convenient (and affordable) option but there have been several complains about cleanness of the rooms and their restaurant staff is not the fastest and most efficient in Namibia.
Newly built Twyfelfontein Lodge is a place to stay next to Twyfelfontein with a fantastic location under red cliffs and excellent food. For a budget tourists Khorixas Rest Camp is a cheaper option. Xaragu Camp is popular for backpackers and budget travellers.
Southern region. Nest Hotel is the most modern hotel in Luderitz, Intu Africa Lodge offers daily tours to Bushmen village and afternoon sundowner drives with a visit to the lion family in the fenced off enclosure. Helmeringhausen Hotel is not very well known but you'll be surprised to find such a comfort in the middle of nowhere! Canyon Hotel in Keetmanshoop is the best place to stay on your way to Fish River Canyon or, if you fit enough to keep on driving, try Canyon Lodge where nice and friendly German girls will offer you a good meals at their restaurant. Bungalows built amongst huge boulders are really special and informative tours around the farm are offered.
