In 1902 the businessman Herrmann Sauber , who landed in Luderitzbucht in 1898, bought the farm "Haruchas" with its 20.000 ha. The name "Haruchas" meaning "rush place" in the Nama language, was given due to the many rush plants which are found in the river beds.
Herrmann Sauber erected his first farmhouse in Aub on the former road to the Naukluft in 1902, because there was plenty of water. In the beginning he used his farm to breed horses for the German "Schutztruppe". During the Nama rebellion in 1904 the farm house in Aub was destroyed. After the demolition of his house Herrmann Sauber was forced to change his place of residence within the farm. He therefore settled here on the road to Maltahohe and finished his first house in1907. (The building is still used as a family guest house.) The construction of today's farmhouse began with erecting the larder in 1907 too. Through continuous extensions around the larder the house was finished in 1948, but has been changed due to different renovations throughout the years.

From 1945 Herrmann's son Jochen extended his breeding on cattle , sheep and goats until he build up a Karakul breeding with up to 3.500 Karakul sheep of selected quality. In the year 1979 Jochen's son Wolfgang took over the farm. Because of drought an changes in the rain seasons since 1980 farming as such got very limited, which is why the Sauber family now offers trophy hunting since 1988 and opened its guest farm in April 1995.
